Research fields
1. Advanced Medical Simulation Training
Research on the importance of surgical and endoscopic simulator training in collaboration with Professor Li Felländer-Tsai, CAMST, Karolinska University Hospital, as well as in collaboration with Professor Evangelos Georgiou at the University of Athens.
2. Gallstone and Biliary Diseases
Ongoing research projects on gallstone surgery and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). These studies are conducted in collaboration with colleagues at Umeå University, Uppsala University, and Karolinska Institutet. Taken together, these studies have, among other things, led to changes in the management of bile duct stones detected during intraoperative cholangiography. This is because the studies demonstrated that stone removal using intraoperative ERCP reduces the risk of postoperative pancreatitis. Furthermore, studies based on data from the Swedish Registry of Gallstone Surgery and ERCP (GallRiks) have shown that while female surgeons operate somewhat slower than their male colleagues, they have fewer complications. This study was recently (2023) published in JAMA Surgery.
