Icke-destruktiv provning

The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Research Group at Umeå University pioneers the development and application of advanced imaging and measurement technologies for non-invasive, high-precision analysis. Established with the support of the Kempe Foundations and led by Associate Professor Davood Khodadad, the group builds upon a strong foundation in multi-modal imaging systems including Optical imaging systems, electrical impedance tomography (EIT), digital holography, and speckle-based metrology and integrates optical, computational, and data-driven methods to address complex challenges across several fields. This multidisciplinary expertise enables research in areas such as infrastructure monitoring, agricultural product quality assessment, biomedical diagnostics and environmental sensing.

Equipped with state-of-the-art polarization imaging systems, laser sources, cameras and vibration-isolated optical setups, the group focuses on translating measurement science into practical innovations. Ongoing work includes the detection of early decay in food products to reduce waste, optical inspection of materials, and the development of novel tomographic and holographic techniques for industrial and healthcare applications. By merging optical intelligence with machine learning and signal processing, the NDE Group fosters sustainable solutions, supports technological advancement, and cultivates collaboration both nationally and internationally, training the next generation of experts in non-destructive testing and intelligent imaging.
