Researcher in mathematics education with a focus on applied research concerning teaching and learning through problem-solving.
Extensive research shows that one of the reasons for the students' difficulties in mathematics is that there is too much emphasis on imitation and rote learning, at the expense of learning other mathematical competencies such as problem-solving and reasoning. I am part of a research team, LICR (Learning mathematics through imitative and creative reasoning), which examines whether, how and under what conditions mathematical tasks and teaching aimed at investigating if students’ own construction of solutions via reasoning may lead to more effective learning. More specifically, I am engaged in developing teaching and teaching design principles that support students learning through creative reasoning and problem-solving.
I have a position as a senior lecturer in the municipality of Hudiksvall were I work as a teacher and a researcher.
